Liverpool: Defender Seamus Coleman and midfielder Gareth Barry were the unlikely goalscorers as Everton scored three late goals to beat Fulham 4-1 at Goodison Park and provisionally move fourth in the Premier League.

For a long spell in the second half, it seemed the hosts had squandered the lead given to them in the 18th minute by Leon Osman on his 300th Premier League appearance when Dimitar Berbatov equalised from the penalty spot in the 67th.

However, Coleman struck with 17 minutes remaining and Barry nodded home from close range in the 84th before Kevin Mirallas added a fourth in injury time.

Also, West Ham were held to a 0-0 draw at home by last-place Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday, and it was the visitors who came closest to leaving with the full three points.

The Hammers struggled to create any chances of note in a poor game at Upton Park and they remain outside of the league's relegation zone by just a point.

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley came closest to finding a winner with a long-range strike that came back off the woodwork toward the end of the first half.

Gus Poyet's side need to start picking up wins but has not scored away from home in the league since Aug. 31.

At Cardiff, Peter Whittingham's second-half header gave Cardiff a 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League on Saturday and extended the visitors' poor run of form.

Neither side had won in their previous five games, but Whittingham's fine finish from Craig Noone's cross in the 65th minute gave the hosts a merited three points and opened up a little breathing space to the bottom three for Malky Mackay's side.

Gareth McAuley and Shane Long failed to convert West Brom's best chances, while the striker also had a penalty appeal turned down after a push by Ben Turner.

It was Albion's fourth straight defeat, leaving the club in 16th place - two spots below Cardiff.

Also, Jay Rodriguez grabbed Southampton's equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in a Premier League match that ended with coaching officials from both benches clashing on the touchline.

Yoan Gouffran gave the home side a 27th-minute lead and Loic Remy passed up two great chances for Newcastle before Rodriguez pounced in the 65th, seconds after Steven Davis hit the post.

The goalkeeping coach from each of the teams was sent off after a touchline scuffle in the final stages, sparked by a foul on the pitch.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew played down the incident, saying "it was bit of panto season at the end."

The draw lifted Newcastle provisionally to sixth place.
