New Delhi: India forward Sunil Chhetri struck on debut for Kansas City Wizards in their 5-1 win over University of Tulsa in a friendly soccer match at Missouri in the US.

According to information received here, Chettri, who joined Kansas last week, came in the second half on Wednesday and scored the fourth goal. Josh Wolff, Teal Bunbury, Korede Aiyegbusi and Igor Kostrov were the other scorers for Kansas.

Chhetri missed the team's Major League Soccer (MLS) opener against DC United, which they won 4-0.

Though it will take some time for Chettri to make his MLS debut, the Indian is likely to play in an intra-club match Saturday.

Chettri becomes the eighth Asian and the first Indian to play in MLS.

He will also be the first Asian to play for the Kansas City Wizards and the third Indian, after Mohammad Salim and Bhaichung Bhutia, to play his trade outside India.
