London: Tottenham were among the most active clubs on transfer deadline day as Scott Parker joined from London rivals West Ham on Wednesday, ensuring a return to the Premier League for the England midfielder.
The 30-year-old Parker completed his 5-million Pounds move to White Hart Lane on the final day of the summer transfer window.
"He's a good player — I think he's what we need. He's a good lad, great attitude," Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said. "Footballer of the Year last year and he'll be a good addition for this team — no doubt about that."
"He's a good character, a fantastic person, a proper family man, a real good pro. He'll be great around the place for us."
The current Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year leaves West Ham four years after joining from Newcastle.
Redknapp said he failed in a bid to sign England centre-back Gary Cahill from Bolton, but agreed to sell Scotland right-back Alan Hutton to Aston Villa, who also took England midfielder Jermaine Jenas on loan from Spurs.
"Jermaine is a dynamic midfield player and I feel he will add to the quality of the squad as well," Villa manager Alex McLeish said. "He also has played at a very high level and I'm sure he'll be relishing this opportunity."
Stoke also raided Tottenham to sign Honduras midfielder Wilson Palacios, adding more international experience to their squad ahead of a first season in European football in 37 years.
The 27-year-old Palacios agreed to a four-year deal with the central English club, moving for an undisclosed fee that was reported in the British media to be around 8 million Pounds.
Palacios, who featured at last year's World Cup in South Africa, made 85 appearances for Spurs after joining from Wigan in January 2009, but dropped down the pecking order last season, behind fellow holding midfielders Sandro and Tom Huddlestone.
"This is a fantastic deal for the club because Wilson has proved himself to be a top-class performer at the highest level," Stoke manager Tony Pulis said. "He has great energy and the qualities to become a driving force in the middle of the park — the type of player our fans will love."
Late in the day, Stoke, who will play in the Europa League this season, also completed the signing of Tottenham striker Peter Crouch for a reported 12 million Pounds. The striker, 30, signed a four-year deal with the Potters.
Pulis added: "Peter has an excellent goal-scoring record at the highest level. His goals-per-games ratio for England is remarkable and he scored seven goals in 10 Champions League games for Tottenham last season which gives you an idea of his pedigree."
Stoke have already signed former England and Real Madrid centre-back Jonathan Woodgate from Spurs this summer on a free transfer and Cameron Jerome from relegated Birmingham.
Meanwhile, in another deal on deadline day, Tottenham sent midfielder David Bentley on loan to West Ham until the end of the season.
Spurs were beaten 5-1 by Manchester City on Sunday, leaving them bottom of the Premier League with two losses.
