London: Arsenal are reportedly on the brink of capturing central defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla for a fee of €8 million. The 30-year-old French stopper was absent from the Andalusian's lineup for their UEFA Champions League qualifying tie away to Braga on Wednesday night and Canal + France has suggested that an imminent deal with the Gunners lead to his omission from the contest in Portugal, a game Sevilla lost 1-0.

France international defender Squillaci joined los Nervionenses in 2008 after spending the majority of his career in Ligue 1. His contract at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan is set to expire next summer and the Spanish outfit appear content to cash in now, rather than see him negotiate a free transfer in January.

Sevilla will apparently receive an initial payment of €8 million with an undisclosed amount in variables to follow. Terms on a contract are unknown at this stage but the deal is expected to be completed before the weekend, with Squillaci possibly available to face Blackpool in the Premier League on Saturday.
