Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh had a big influence in the way the Indian Spider-Man panned out in Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse, Karan Soni has revealed. In an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Karan revealed how he drew inspiration from Ranveer’s real-life persona and channelled it to elevate Pavitr Prabhakar AKA Indian Spider-Man’s performance in the animation film. The Deadpool & Wolverine star teased he will refer to Ranveer’s performance in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
“Phil and Chris (writers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller) asked me to come on board after I was already cast and help on a few stuff. They asked me, ‘If you were to walk into the theatre, and you saw this character (Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India), what would you want to see. So tell us that, we will try to incorporate other than what’s already had to happen. In a weird way, my inspiration was Ranveer Singh," Karan admitted.
“I saw his hair, I saw his look, I thought [the Indian Spider-Man] should be so confident and be the life of the party and then we just re-incorporated the character and I got to play my version of Ranveer Singh," he said.
When asked if he watched any of Ranveer’s films that helped him with polishing Pavitr Prabhakar’s characteristics, he said, “I was referring to his personality but then, Rocky Aur Rani (Kii Prem Kahaani) came out after we had already finished, and I was like, ‘This is more inspiration for the next film’ (laughs). His performance in that is the purest version of the idea of him, almost, and him having optimised it to his best. I watched that film twice in theatres in LA," Karan shared.
He also added that if given a chance, he would love to essay the live-action version of the Indian Spider-Man.
