During a recent AMA session on Instagram, Janhvi Kapoor revealed that she’s heavily ‘inspired’ by Zendaya who put method dressing on display during the promotions of her films, Dune and Challengers. So, during the pre-release events of her upcoming film Mr & Mrs Mahi, Janhvi has also been seen sporting ensembles in line with the theme of the film. A while back, she grabbed attention as she donned a red dress with cricket ball miniatures installed at the back. At the trailer launch, she wore a jersey-esque blouse and today at the unveiling of the first song from the film, Dekhha Tenu, she rounded off her look with a purse resembling a cricket ball.
Talking about how she tried nudging her co-star Rajkummar Rao to do the same, Janhvi exclusively tells News18 Showsha, “I had given Raj some cricket brooches and had told him to wear them.” Interestingly, she has been styling herself and creating her own looks for Mr & Mrs Mahi promotions and she quips that she already has been professionally styling her family and friends for a while now.
Apart from Zendaya and social media sensation Uorfi Javed who Janhvi hailed for being ‘creative’, she reveals that she also drew inspiration from Alia Bhatt when it comes to method dressing. “Uorfi, Zendaya, Anya Taylor-Joy and even Alia during Gangubai Kathiawadi and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani had done such a great job and they did it so beautifully. That not only had a recall value for their films but also brought the attention back to their films,” Janhvi points out.
Happy that her style statements are creating the right noise for her film, she tells us, “I am having fun with it. I love dressing up. It feels like working on a school assignment. So, I am treating it like that (laughs). My stylist and I are sitting on each look and accessories. I don’t know how much it will help the film but I’m happy that it has become a little bit of a talking point.”
According to Janhvi, this is the second time she’s dressing up keeping in mind the theme of her film after her debut vehicle, Dhadak. She further elaborates, “Every time there’s a film coming out, the makers and the team always tell us to dress similar to our characters. I did that in Dhadak and then realised that there’s a fair amount of attention on how all of us actors dress and look and that becomes a talking point. Method dressing is just one more trope.”
On a related note, the trailer of Mr & Mrs Mahi highlights the protagonists’ romance, their love for cricket, and their aspiration to achieve success in life. Directed by Sharan Sharma, it is all set for a theatrical release on May 31.
