Citadel Diana's Matilda De Angelis on Meeting Priyanka Chopra, Samantha: 'All We Could Talk…' | Exclusive
Matilda De Angelis says she's 'deeply inspired' by Priyanka Chopra Jonas. She adds feeling extremely comfortable around Priyanka and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Last month, the press screening of Raj-DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, took place in London. The gala night saw the women of the series—Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Citadel), Samantha (Citadel: Honey Bunny), and Matilda De Angelis (Citadel: Diana)—come together for a picture that went viral in no time. For the unversed, the Raj-DK show is the Indian spin-off of the Russo Brothers’ spy universe franchise, while Matilda’s Citadel: Diana, which is set to premiere on Prime Video on October 10, marks the Italian chapter.

In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Matilda opens up about meeting Priyanka and Samantha in the British capital and shares her fondness for the duo. “I had also met them in London one-and-a-half years ago. Every time I meet these girls, it feels like I know them so well. I feel so comfortable around them. And it was nice to see them again,” the actor, who was also seen in the popular Italian series The Law According to Lidia Poët, tells us.

The picture featuring the trio from the screening night grabbed a lot of attention as it brought together the women ruling the Citadel universe. Talking about how she looks forward to meeting them again, Matilda says, “All we could talk about was Citadel and how excited we are. We met briefly, for a couple of hours, but I’m looking forward to something more intimate, like a dinner with the girls.”

She further states that when she first watched Priyanka in Citadel, she was ‘deeply inspired.’ As a result, she left no stone unturned to give her all so that she could match the bar set by the Desi Girl. “When we were at the premiere in London, I remember watching Citadel and thinking to myself, ‘Wow, she’s so good, so incredibly good!’ She’s so stunning and beautiful, and she was a badass! I wanted to be at her level. So, I trained very, very hard to fill the gaps and meet expectations,” Matilda states.

Earlier, the Russo Brothers had said that Citadel is an answer to the James Bond films. The Citadel franchise has, and will continue to, feature powerful women in lead roles, and Matilda is glad that the creators made this decision, not just to make a statement. “In a way, it’s our answer to James Bond as long as we aren’t jumping onto some trend. The main thing is the story. Only if it’s truthful will it work. Casting meaty female characters makes sense only if we need them to lead a story, otherwise it will just be a fashion trend or a gimmick,” she remarks.

On a related note, Citadel: Diana is set in Milan in 2030 and revolves around an undercover Citadel agent who’s trapped behind enemy lines as a mole in Manticore. The series features approximately 850 stunts, hundreds of cars, high-tech spy gadgets, adrenaline-fueled scenes, and a nearly 450-meter-long zip-line flight. Matilda performed most of her stunts herself after undergoing intensive strength training, choreography, and martial arts preparation.
