Meet Vijay Wardhan, The Man Who Overcame 35 Exam Failures To Crack UPSC Twice
In 2014, Wardhan took the UPSC exam for the very first time but was unable to clear it.

Union Public Service Commission or UPSC is considered arguably the toughest exam to crack in India. And the stories of those who can do it are always very inspiring. Another such story is that of a man from Haryana who was unable to pass any government job but finally succeeded and passed the UPSC examination after failing other exams 35 times. As the proverb goes “failure is not the opposite of success; it is a part of success,” Haryana’s Vijay Wardhan is the perfect example of it. He was initially selected as an IPS officer in UPSC CSE but now, he is an IAS officer.

The IAS officer, Vijay Wardhan grew up in Sirsa, Haryana. He studies B.Tech in Electronics Engineering from Hisar. After that, he went to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exam. But luck was not in his favour! Even after trying 35 times, he was unable to pass any of the government exams including the Haryana PCS, UPPSC, SSC, and CGL, as part of his preparation. But he never gave up. In 2014, Wardhan took the UPSC exam for the very first time but was unable to clear it.

Finally, in 2018, Vijay Wardhan was able to clear the UPSC exam after trying multiple times. He managed to crack the UPSC with an All India Rank (AIR) of 104 and became an IPS. Vijay Wardhan was dissatisfied with his IPS position and he again took the UPSC test and became an IAS in 2021. He passed the UPSC exam again in 2021. He therefore has cracked the world’s toughest examination not once but twice! In an interview, Vijay Wardhan says to the aspirants to never lose faith in themselves. He advised particularly senior applicants, “You can’t repeat the same process you’re following. You need to make some changes.”

Vijay Vardhan learned from his mistakes instead of getting frustrated by his repeated failures. After each failure, he honestly evaluated his performance. While certain individuals give up after one or two attempts, Haryana’s Vijay Wardhan did not give up. He is an inspiration for all the aspirants who are facing the same situation. He is the epitome of not giving up and believing in yourself and your dreams.
