The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), in an effort to democratise access to high-quality management education, has introduced a new online course on “New Age Business Models”. The six-week course is hosted on SWAYAM, the Ministry of Education’s online learning platform, and is provided by IIMBx, the institute’s digital learning vertical.

The course is intended to give students studying business management at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as working professionals, aspiring business owners, and entrepreneurs, a thorough understanding of new business models. The initiative is unique given that it is provided for free, which aligns with IIM Bangalore’s mission to expand access to quality education.

Professor K Ganesh, an adjunct faculty member at IIMB and a seasoned entrepreneur with a track record of successfully launching and exiting enterprises such as BigBasket, Tutorvista, Portea, and Bluestone, is in charge of designing the course. He is also a founder and partner at GrowthStory, a venture builder platform that helps emerging businesses and entrepreneurs.

Interested candidates can apply for enrolment in the programme using the SWAYAM platform at https://onlinecourses.swayam2.ac.in/imb24_mg57/preview by February 29, 2024. The registrations began on January 29, 2024.

Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) enterprises, aggregators, marketplaces, platforms, and other emerging business models are all included in the course. Keynote speakers on the curriculum include Shekar Sharma, the founder and CEO of Paytm, Ananth Narayan, the CEO and founder of Mensa Brands, Arun Narayan, the vice president of Tanishq, and Vikram Vaidyanathan, the managing partner of Matrix Partners.

The pedagogical approach combines video lectures, case studies, quizzes, self-assessment, and discussion forums. With the help of this comprehensive learning approach, participants will gain an understanding of the subtleties of modern business models and an understanding of how successful new-age organisations are run.

Professor Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch of the course, saying, “At IIM Bangalore, we use technology to broaden the reach of quality management education.” He emphasised that the organisation is steadfast in its efforts to create and provide students throughout the nation with top-notch education.
