On Saturday, IAS Amrit Lal Meena was appointed the new Chief Secretary of Bihar, a feat which is considered to be extremely rare. As per the reports, he has replaced Brijesh Mehrotra, who was to retire on August 31. He is a 1989 batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre.

Before his promotion to the post, Amrit Lal Meena was a secretary in the Bihar Union Ministry of Coal. According to the information given, he has served in several important posts, including the post of District Collector, in several districts in the state.

Amrit Lal Meena is a native of Rajasthan, and a resident of the Dabra village, in Karauli district. Since he was a child, he showed interest in studies and was considered a bright child. He completed his early education at a government school located in his village. More information states that his father had to deal with poor financial situations, which forced him to live in poverty.

The newly appointed Bihar Chief Secretory completed his secondary education, till class 8th, from the government school in his village. To pursue his higher education, he moved to the Gangapur City. According to the reports, he is a holder of a BE Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, which he obtained from the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur, Rajasthan. Then in 1989, after qualifying for the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam, he was appointed to the post of IAS (Indian Administrative Service).

Amrit is the eldest of five siblings. He has three brothers and a sister; the brothers are in government jobs while his sister is a homemaker. His brother-in-law works at the CPWD (Central Public Works Department) in Delhi.

The IAS’s very first posting was in the year 1991, as the SDO or Sub Divisional Officer. According to his profile on LinkedIn, he was appointed the DDC in 1993. Then in the following nine years, he worked as a District Magistrate in several districts. In 2022, he was appointed the secretary of the Ministry of Coal.
