It wasn’t too long ago when Yash Dayal who played for the Gujarat Titans was on the receiving end of a traumatic thrashing courtesy of Rinku Singh conceding five sixes in the last over in April 2023.
But his resilience and grit were on show when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper, Faf du Plessis handed the left-arm pacer the responsibility of the final over against Chennai Super Kings with a spot in the final playoff spot up for grabs.
But there were bigger things that were on the line for the pacer from Uttar Pradesh. It was a chance for the 26-year-old to shut down his haters, the trauma from that night and more importantly help his side get the win.

His challenge was even bigger than before. Now he has to go up against MS Dhoni, someone who could be playing his final IPL. With a chance to play the finals at his home ground, it was clear that Thala wanted to get those runs and was intent on getting that fairy-tale ending to see out his cricketing career.
Yash certainly must have been revisiting those demons when Dhoni struck him for a mammoth 110-metre six which went flying over the fine-leg boundary for a six off the very first ball.

Interestingly, that six might have won them the game but the ball change turned out to be what he needed to turn around fortunes in his favour. With a drier ball, Yash had the task set forth, defend 11 off the remaining five deliveries.
A back-of-the-hand slower delivery ended up getting the wicket of the legendary Dhoni which broke the hearts of the fans in yellow. Dhoni went for the heave but it ended up falling short and found the man at the square-leg boundary ropes, Swapnil Singh, who took the catch.

Yash Dayal managed to get past one of the best finishers of the game and put everything on the line and the gamble paid off in the end. However, his task did not end there.
With 11 needed off 4, he relied on the same delivery for the rest of the over and Shardul Thakur was unable to find the bat on ball. Despite getting the single, Jadeja was unable to get the job done as Dayal was already celebrating after the penultimate delivery after seeing the end in sight.

This is one of those comeback stories for the ages. Something that many franchises rightfully acknowledged and will be something that Yash will take forward through the end of his playing career. His story serves as a message for the many cricket enthusiasts who will use his story to show how you can comeback from dire adversity through sheer grit and resilience.
For every setback, there’s a comeback waiting for you if you’re brave enough to fight it out. Well done, Yash https://t.co/EuEuFEwxcD— KolkataKnightRiders (@KKRiders) May 18, 2024
Rightfully, the RCB skipper also dedicated the Player of the Match award to the pacer who certainly managed to script an epic comeback of massive proportions.
