Virat Kohli Could Miss India's T20 World Cup Warm-up Against Bangladesh: Report
Virat Kohli is reported to have taken a break after IPL 2024 and will leave for New York on May 30.

Virat Kohli has reportedly opted to take a break after IPL 2024 and hence will link up with the India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup a little late. Kohli is expected to fly out to New York on May 30 and could skip the team’s only warm-up match against Bangladesh scheduled for June 1.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Kohli informed the BCCI of his decision much before the first batch of India players including captain Rohit Sharma left for USA on Saturday evening.

“Kohli had informed us way beforehand that he will be joining the team late and that is why the BCCI has kept his visa appointment for a later date. He is expected to fly out to New York in the early morning of May 30th. The BCCI has agreed to his request,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the publication.

Additionally, India T20I vice-captain and allrounder Hardik Pandya along with wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson will also be joining their colleagues later.

Samson reportedly has some personal work to attend to in Dubai.

Kohli was part of IPL 2024, representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in all of their 15 matches of the season. RCB qualified for the playoffs by finishing fourth on the table but lost to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator.

Kohli finished the campaign with 741 runs from 15 innings and currently leads the race for the Orange Cap.

Rohit, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Shivam Dube, Mohammed Siraj, Axar Patel and Shubman Gill left Mumbai on Saturday night for the world cup.

After facing Bangladesh in the warm-up, India will kickstart their campaign against Ireland in a Group A match on June 5 and then take on Pakistan in a blockbuster clash on June 9.

India won the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007 but haven’t won the title ever since. Their last appearance at the T20 showpiece resulted in a semi-final exit.
