Team India opted to have a bat first after winning the toss against Ben Stokes’ England, as skipper Rohit Sharma led by example with a magnificent century.
India were reeling at 33 for the loss of 3 wickets early on in the game before a partnership between captain Rohit and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja steadied the innings for the hosts and took the game away from the tourists.
Rohit made a brilliant 131-run contribution, while Jadeja also brought up his ton with a 110-run showing. Debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel also gave good accounts of themselves as they made 62 runs and 46 runs respectively.
Mark Wood was the star with the ball for England as he scalped 4 wickets to bundle India out for 445 runs.
England opened the innings with Crawley and Ben Duckett as the former fell prey to Ashwin after an 89-run opening stand.
However, Duckett stood tall for the Englishmen as he brought up his ton and remained unbeaten on 133 at stumps on Day 2.
