South Africa got the better of India at the St George’s Oval in Port Elizabeth, in the second of the three-match ODI series with an 8-wicket win over the men in blue on Tuesday.
The Proteas wrapped up India for a total of 211 runs in 46.2 overs before successfully chasing down the target in just 42.3 overs to level the series 1-1.
South African opener Tony de Zorzi’s unbeaten maiden ODI ton helped the Proteas chase down the target with 45 balls and 8 wickets to spare.
SA skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bowl first as the hosts got off to a bright start. Protea pacer Nandre Burger scalped Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second delivery of the game to hand the men in blue an early blow.
Tilak Varma, who came in to bat at No.3 on the day, was only able to make 10 runs in 30 deliveries before he was sent back to the dugout.
But, Sai Sudharsan and skipper KL Rahul steadied the ship for the men in blue as they scored a half-century each.
The left-handed opener, Sudharsan, continued his good form from the first game with a 62-run knock on Tuesday, while Rahul added 56 runs off 64 deliveries before being sent back by Burger.
Sudharsan fell prey to Lizaad Williams. Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh fell to Beuran Hendricks and Keshav Maharaj respectively after having made 12 and 17 runs.
Axar Patel was scalped by skipper Markram, while Kuldeep Yadav fell to Mahraj’s spin. Arshdeep Singh added 18 runs before being dismissed by Hendricks, before Avesh Khan was run out by Wiaan Mulder as SA wrapped India up for 211 runs in 46.2 overs.
Chasing the target, South Africa started cautiously with de Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks. The opening pair put up a partnership of 130 runs before Hendricks fell to Arshdeep Singh.
Rassie Van Der Dussen came out to bat and supported de Zorzi, who went on to make his maiden ODI century as he helped the Proteas finish off the game and pull level in the three-match series.
