RR vs RCB, IPL 2024 Eliminator: Ashwin Reveals He 'Texted Virat Saying Come On Let's Fight It One More Time'

Ravichandran Ashwin said he had texted Virat Kohli ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

RCB scored 172/8 from their 20 overs against RR after being put into bat as Rajat Patidar top-scored with 34 off 22 balls.

In-form opener Virat Kohli made 33 off 24 balls before falling to wily leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, while Mahipal Lomror chipped in with a brisk 17-ball 32.

Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bowled beautifully to finish with excellent figures of 2/19 in four overs while taking the wickets of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell off successive balls. Avesh Khan took 3/44 in his four overs.

R Ashwin said that it has been a tournament of two halves for him and he started slow but in the last few games, he has been bowling well and feels at the top of his game.

“It’s been a tournament of two halves for me. First half into the tournament I was struggling coming from a long Test series and had a few injuries. Last few games I feel I am bowling really well,” Ashwin said at the mid-innings break.

“I texted Virat saying come on let’s fight it one more time,” Ashwin revealed.

Ashwin added that there is dew on the ground but there hasn’t been much dew throughout the country.

“Dew has come on nicely. The IPL committee has done well overall in the tournament to manage the dew,” Ashwin said.

When asked about RR’s string of low scores in Chennai and Guwahati, Ashwin said: “Got to reset button. Also got to look at the pitches we played on in those games. Not hiding behind the fact that we didn’t bat well in the last few games but it’s just about hitting the reset button, go out and enjoy in the middle.

Ashwin signed off saying that 172 is a par minus score.
