The Kolkata Knight Riders are on the verge of making history tonight, as they prepare to take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad in qualifier 1 of IPL 2024. Ahead of the epic fixture, the franchise shared a video of their beloved star Rinku Singh who gives the fans some insight into his life. In the opening sequence of the video, the Indian batter is seen talking about how people misunderstand his first name for a household nickname. “So many people have asked me this question, ‘Your name Rinku, is something they call you at home?’ This is my real name. I don’t have any nickname at home”, Rinku said in the video.
Rinku Singh further revealed how several people told him his first name was generally used for females in India. “Many people have told me that ‘Rinku’ is used for naming girls,” the finisher said. A couple of fans seemed to confirm the same with one of them saying, “Rinku is good, it’s a cute name”. Another supporter, dressed in a clown outfit, suggested, “Rinku is… the name of a girl”.
Rinku talked about how he wasn’t too confident about his name during the early days since it wasn’t anything unique. “To be honest, in the beginning, I did not think my name carried any punch. But as I continued to play cricket, the weight of my name increased after hitting those five sixes. Then the value of my name increased,” the cricketer added.
In the video, Rinku also revisited the time he struck five sixes in Ahmedabad last season against Yash Dayal. In a high-octane clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, Rinku smashed five maximums in a single over from Dayal. “The life before the five sixes and after it changed completely. I started getting a few ads, becoming a little famous. It feels nice to see your hoardings or people chanting your name. It feels like I have done something in life”.
Speaking about the game, Rinku said, “I never thought that I would hit five sixes. So stop thinking, the person above you might be thinking something better for you which is why I keep saying ‘God’s Plan’”.
With just hours left for Qualifier 1, a victory in today’s game will send KKR to the tournament’s final. The ultimate battle is scheduled to take place this weekend, May 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
