With the T20 World Cup heading towards the next stage i.e, the Super-8s, the Australian pacer, Josh Hazlewood has hinted that the Aussies might be looking to play spoilsport ahead of their final group-stage fixture to ruin England’s chances to progress.
Speaking at a press conference, Hazlewood was asked regarding their current situation in the group where Australia who have qualified for the Super-8 might be able to cut England’s journey in the tournament short. The pacer did not shy away from revealing that he would be interested in spoiling England’s chances of making it through to the Super-8s.
England are currently yet to register a win in their campaign, having lost to Australia and their game against Scotland being washed out. They will need to register big wins against Oman and Namibia to get through but Australia might be eyeing to spoil things for the defending champions.
“Yeah, I think so. In this tournament, you could potentially come against England at some stage again and as you said, they’re probably one of the top few teams on their day,” he added.

Hazlewood however believes that the defending champions could be a problem going into the tournament and suggested that it might be in their best interest to get them out of the World Cup as early as possible.
“We’ve had some real struggles against them in T20 cricket. If we can get them out of the tournament, then that’s in our best interest as well”.

“Never really been in this kind of a position before as a team but I think whether we have discussions or not, we play like the way we did tonight, that will be up to other people, not me,” Hazlewood commented.
The conversation ended with Hazlewood pondering about the options where Australia could ruin England’s campaign.

“I’m not too sure really, we could get close, knock it around and drag it out, there’s a few options there,” he concluded.
Australia will be playing Scotland in their final group-stage game of the tournament. Meanwhile, England has the likes of Oman and Namibia in their remaining games which could decide their fate.
