Punjab were reeling at 77 for the loss of 6 wickets at one point before 25-year-old Ashutosh Sharma produced a blinder of an innings that nearly took the hosts over the line but ultimately went in vain.
The youngster demonstrated his pinch-hitting prowess in his 61-run knock off just 28 deliveries, which included a couple of fours and seven sixes, as he took on the MI unit and whacked the bowlers all around the park.

PBKS stand-in skipper Sam Curran won the toss and opted to bowl first against MI on the day. Punjab struck early to dismiss Ishan Kishan, but Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav came up with an 81-run stand for the second wicket to steady the innings.
Rohit fell after adding 36 runs, while Suryakumar kept the runs flowing thanks to his 78-run knock. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten at 34 off 18 deliveries, while Tim David and Hardik Pandya came up with contributions of 12 and 10 runs to help the five-time champions to a total of 192.
Mumbai started their defence in splendid fashion reducing the hosts to 49/5 in 7 overs thanks to their seam attack headlined by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, and South African seamer Coetzee.
Ashutosh breathed life into the game with his blitzkrieg, but couldn’t take his side to the finish line as the Punjab Kings went down in the final over of the game for the fourth tie this season in heartbreaking fashion.
