IPL 2024: 'My Opinion of Myself Doesn't Change Irrespective of Result', Says RR's Riyan Parag After Match-winning Performance Against DC
Parag, who made an incredible unbeaten 82-run contribution to his side, revealed that his opinion of himself does not change due to performances on the field.

Rajasthan Royals picked up their second win on the bounce in the 2024 edition of the IPL with a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at home in Jaipur on Thursday thanks to Riyan Parag’s unbeaten 82-run knock.

Parag’s brilliant innings helped RR to a total of 186/5 in 20 overs before Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a couple of wickets each as the bowling unit held steadfast to limit DC to 193/5 in 20 overs.

Parag, who was overwhelmed with emotions during the half-time talk right after his innings said that his opinion of himself does not change due to performances on the field on a given day.

“The emotions are settled,” he began.

He also revealed that his mum was in attendance and knows all too well about his struggles in the past couple of seasons.

“My mom is here, she has seen the struggle over the last 3-4 years,” the 22-year-old said.

“I know what my opinion is about myself. That does not change regardless of whether I get a zero or not,” the right-hander said.

Parag, who has shown a lot of promise over the year, said that having a great domestic season helps in getting into the swing of things in a high-profile tournament such as the IPL. But, added that there was a lot of work still to be done.

“That’s a lot to do with the type of season as well, I had a great domestic season and that helps,” he said.

He revealed that someone in the top order had to remain at the crease for the entirety of the innings, much like skipper Sanju Samson did against LSG in their opener.

“Someone in the top four has to play the 20 overs, the wicket was keeping low and stopping, in the first game Sanju bhaiyya did it,” Parag said.

Parag concluded by sharing that he was sick for the past couple of days but was glad he could come out and do the job for his side on gameday.

“I have worked very hard. The last 3 days I was in bed, I was on painkillers, I just got up today and I’m very happy,” the youngster concluded.
