Delhi Capitals’ INR 4 crore signing Harry Brook has reportedly pulled out of IPL 2024, citing personal reasons. Brook was unavailable for the India vs England series, returning home from Abu Dhabi, where the team’s preparatory camp was held ahead of the series, which England lost 1-4.
In his inaugural IPL season, Brook set the stage on fire with a 55-ball hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders but ended the season on an underwhelming note. He scored 190 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 11 matches after the franchise paid INR 13.50 crore to acquire his services. SRH let go of him for the IPL 2024 auction
After signing Brook in last year’s auction, DC coach Ricky Ponting said he was excited to have the aggressive English batter in the side and termed him ‘one of the most talented international cricketers in the world at the moment’.
“I was excited about Harry Brook. I think he is one of the most talented international cricketers in the world at the moment. He was our number 1 priority today, and we got him for a whole lot cheaper than we expected to. So, I’m really excited to work with him,” Ponting said in December last year.
Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk In DC Radar
As per a report in Code Sports, Australian firebrand opener Jake Fraser-McGurk is on the Delhi Capitals’ radar to replace Brook. 21-year-old Fraser-McGurk earned his T20I and ODI call-ups for Australia this year and has so far played two ODIs. In October 2023, the South Australian broke AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest century in List A, hitting a 29-ball 100. In the 2023-24 Big Bash League season, he scored 257 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 158.64.
DC coach Ricky Ponting rates Fraser-McGurk highly and had once compared him to a young David Warner. “Because the natural talent that he’s got reminds me a bit of David Warner’s introduction into Australian cricket. When we saw [Warner] at the start, I think everyone doubted whether he was going to be good enough to play Test cricket technically.
“But with the talent and the skill that he had, which I think Jake has got as much talent as what Davey had coming through, then I think the earlier they can get him into the system and get him playing and let him work out for himself the best way to have success in all the different formats, I think it will be great for Australian cricket,” Ponting had told ESPN Cricinfo this year.
Brook 4th English Player to Pull out of IPL 2024
Brook is the fourth English player who will give IPL 2024 a miss after Mark Wood (LSG), Jason Roy, and Gus Atkinson (KKR) opted out of the upcoming season starting March 22. While Wood and Atkinson were pulled out by ECB owing to workload management, Roy withdrew, citing personal reasons.
