BCCI to Meet Team Owners on April 16 to Discuss Next IPL Mega Auction: Report
The BCCI and the team owners are expected to discuss various topics related to the IPL mega auction including player retention, team budgets among others.

The BCCI will reportedly hold a meeting with the IPL team owners in Ahmedabad on April 16 – the same day when Gujarat Titans will host Delhi Capitals.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, IPL CEO Hemang Amin has sent invitation to all 10 franchise owners who are expected to attend the meeting alongside their respective CEOs.

The agenda for the meeting hasn’t been outlined yet but a number of topics could come up for discussion including the specifics of the next IPL mega auction which will be held ahead of 18th season of the league.

The likes of BCCI president Roger Binny, board secretary Jay Shah along with IPL chairman Arun Dhumal will be in attendance.

“They will discuss the way forward for the IPL,” the publication quoted a source as saying.

Among the issues that could be discussed include player retentions with few team owners of the opinion that the number should be significantly increased to maintain continuity, brand image and increase their fan base. However, there are teams that is against raising this number.

Team budgets at the auction could also come up for discussions which is likely to be increased from Rs 100 crore per team. The Right to Match card could also be introduced.

The last mega auction was held before IPL 2022 and it was expected to be the last of its kind. However, last month Dhumal confirmed that there will be another “mega auction for sure”.

“We will have the mega auction for sure, where you get to choose three-four players and then you have a new team. That makes it more interesting and that format will continue,” Dhumal told Sportstar. “Hopefully, the mega auction will be as big and as good as we have had earlier given newer talents coming in not from India and other countries. Teams like Afghanistan have also benefitted as they could showcase their talent.”
