Bad News For Sri Lanka As Wanindu Hasaranga Ruled Out Of ODI Series Against India
Hasaranga, who has 87 wickets to his name in 55 ODIs played so far, dismissed Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Kuldeep Yadav in the first ODI against India on Friday.

Star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasranga, who picked up three wickets in the first ODI against India on Friday (August 2), has been ruled out of the remaining two 50-over matches of the ongoing series between India and Sri Lanka. The 27-year-old cricketer, who has 87 wickets to his name in 55 matches played so far, will miss the last two ODIs in Colombo due to an injury to his left hamstring.

34-year-old leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been named as his replacement for the last two ODIs.

“Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the remainder of the ODI series, as the player has suffered an injury to his left hamstring,” a release stated.

“He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI.

“An MRI performed on the player, following this, confirmed the injury.

“Jeffrey Vandersay comes into the squad in place of Hasaranga.”

During the first India-Sri Lanka ODI, which ended in a tie on Friday, Hasaranga dismissed Virat Kohli (24), KL Rahul (31), and Kuldeep Yadav (2) to help his side restrict India to 230 runs. He also made a significant contribution with the bat by scoring 24 runs. During his stay at the crease, Hasaranga faced 35 balls and smacked one four and two sixes.

He added 36 runs for the seventh wicket with Dunith Wellalage, who top-scored for the Charith Asalanka-led side by remaining unbeaten on 67 runs from 65 balls.

3rd SL player to miss ODIs

Former T20I captain Hasaranga is the third Sri Lankan player to miss the ODI series due to injury. Before him, pacers Dilshan Madushanka and Matheesha Pathirana were ruled out because of hamstring and shoulder injuries, respectively.

2nd ODI on Sunday

The second ODI of the ongoing series between the two former World Cup winners is scheduled to take place at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India has won 99 out of 169 ODIs played so far against the Islanders, and if the Rohit Sharma-led side manages to secure a win on Sunday, then India will become the first team in history to win 100 ODIs against one team.
