Sensex up by 128 pts in early trade
Sensex recovered 128 points on fresh buying by funds as well as investors in tandem with firming global trends.

New Delhi: The markets have hold out its opening gains on account of buying witnessed across the sectors led by capital goods and metal stocks.

At 10.30 am (IST), the Sensex is up 128.93 points or 0.92 per cent at 14131.96, and the Nifty up 37.15 points or 0.90 per cent at 4150.2.

About 1256 shares have advanced, 304 shares declined, and 33 shares are unchanged.

Top gainers on the Sensex are BHEL at Rs 1,346.90 up 2.70 per cent, HDFC at Rs 1,781 up 1.72 per cent and SBI at Rs 1,311.10 up 1.68 per cent.

Top losers on the Sensex are Hero Honda at Rs 690 down 0.71 per cent, ICICI Bank at Rs 911.60 down 0.14 per cent and Hindalco at Rs 160.15 down 0.09 per cent.

Most active shares on BSE are Sun Pharma at Rs 1,055.25 with 6,52,500 shares, Time Technoplast at Rs 491.25 with 11,13,291 shares and Unitech at Rs 517.05 with 8,64,333 shares.

Market sees gap up opening on strong global cues

The markets opened on very strong note today on the back of strong cues from the global markets.

There was broad based buying in the opening trade and all the Sensex stocks were in green and market breadth is also exciting.

At 9:56 am, Sensex was up 135 points at 14137 and Nifty was up 43 points at 4156.

Major gainers in the opening trade were SBI, TCS, ONGC, Reliance, Rel Comm, Bharti, HDFC Bank, Tata Power, HPCL, Suzlon, Tata Power, Tata Motors and Cipla.

Asian markets: Asian markets trading strong, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.77 per cent or 158.82 points at 20,737.57, Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.66 per cent or 116.62 points at 17,849.39, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted surged 1.02 per cent or 85.31 points at 8,431.70, Singapore's Straits Times gained 0.87 per cent or 30.90 points at 3,582.12 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was up 1.63 per cent or 28.1 points at 1,750.09.

US Market: The Dow jumped 187.34 points, or 1.41 per cent, to 13,482.35, after bouncing around earlier in the session as investors weighed the possibility of rising interest rates.

Market cues:

  • FIIs net buy USD 129.4 mn in equity on June 12.
  • Domestic MFs net sell Rs 339.8 crore (Rs 3.39 billion) on June 12.
  • NSE F&O Open Interest up by Rs 2,110 crore (Rs 21.10 billion) at Rs 65,827 crore (Rs 658.27 billion).

  • Futures Open Interest up by Rs 1,381 crore (Rs 13.81 billion); Options Open Interest up by Rs 729 crore (Rs 7.29 billion).
  • Nifty Futures add 23.1 lakh shares in Open Interest.

  • Nifty Open Interest Put-Call ratio down to 1.22 from 1.29.
