Sensex ended at the highest points of the day at 12,906.81 up 208.40 points due to buying seen in index pivotals.

Mumbai: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex ended at the highest points of the day due to buying seen in index pivotals on the back of good third quarter numbers, like that of Bharti Airtel. The Sensex closed at 12,906.81 up 208.40 points or 1.64 per cent. The Nifty gained 62 points to close at 3739. The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 6,520.38 up 5.68 points or 0.1 per cent.

The Sensex, which touched the day's high of 12,921.25 points, closed at 12,906.81, revealing a handsome gain of 208.40 points on the back of a surge in share prices of index-heavy Reliance Industries, Infosys Technologies, Grasim Industries and ONGC.

The National Stock Exchange's index Nifty gained 61.80 points at 3,739.35, after touching an intra-day high of 3,747.35. The BSE Midcap Index ended at 5,396.27 up 30.61 points or 0.57 per cent.

The BSE Bankex was up 1.33 per cent at 6,398.65. Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Federal Bank, PNB and Canara Bank moved upwards.

The BSE IT Index gained 1 per cent at 4,840.25. Patni Computer, HCL Tech, Wipro, Infosys and Satyam advanced.

The BSE Metal Index was up 0.3 per cent to close at 9,131.61. Sesa Goa, Jindal Steel, JSW Steel, Mah Seamless and NALCO ended higher.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 0.8 per cent at 8,659.91. Lakshmi Machine, Crompton Greave, BEML, ABB, Alfa Laval closed higher.

The BSE Health Care Index closed was up 0.7 per cent at 3,629.84. Sterling Bio, Glenmark, Divis Labs, Novartis India and FDC closed higher.

The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.22 per cent at 2,010.45. ITC, HLL, P&G and Tata Tea closed in green. The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,393.44 up 1.35 per cent. Cummins, M&M, Sundram, Tata Motors and Maruti Udyog moved higher.

The BSE Oil and Gas Index gained 3 per cent to close at 5,981.34. Chennai Petro, Reliance, ONGC, MRPL and BPCL ended in green.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 8347.59 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 22591.36 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 4247.7 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 35186.65 crore.
