Mumbai: The markets closed flat in line with Asian peers seeing some consolidation after a significant run up.
The markets were sluggish throughout the day and were hovering around the previous day close. The Sensex closed at 11,904.60 down 10 points. The Nifty lost 3 points to close at 3474.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed at 5,906.81 up 19 points or 0.3 per cent.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 4,968.03 up 28 points or 0.6 per cent.
The BSE sectoral indices closed mixed.
The BSE Metal Index gained 1.9 per cent at 8,390.13. JindalStainless, Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc and Hindalco witnessed buying interest.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was gained 0.4 per cent at 7,947.59. Gammon India, Alstom Projects, Thermax, Crompton Greave and BHEL closed higher.
The BSE Health Care Index was flat at 3,635.13. Aurobindo Pharm, Aventis Pharma, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis India and Lupin closed in negative terrain.
The BSE Oil and Gas Index lost 0.15 per cent at 5,451.95. Petronet LNG, BPCL, Kochi Refin, HPCL slipped.
The BSE Bankex was down 0.2 per cent at 5,434.76. Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Andhra Bank, HDFC Bank, Karnataka Bank moved downwards.
The BSE IT Index lost 0.3 per cent to close at 4,350.36. HCL Info , Wipro, TCS, Infosys closed in red.
The BSE Auto Index lost 0.3 per cent at 5,128.92. Tube Investment, Hind Motors, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog and Cummins
declined on the bourses.
The BSE FMCG lost 0.7 per cent to close at 2,036.34. Nestle, ITC, Dabur India and HLL closed in negative terrain.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 5741.31 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 18587.17 crore.
The BSE cash turnover was Rs 2798.35 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 27126.83 crore.
