Continuing its upward trend, the benchmark BSE Sensex raised another 75 points to quote over 13,000-level.

New Delhi: The markets opened with modest gain on Friday, the last trading day of the month on account of buying seen in the IT, cement and pharma stocks.

Continuing its upward trend, the benchmark BSE Sensex raised another 75 points to quote over 13,000-level in early trading on the back of buying by funds and retail investors.

The 30-share index on the Bombay Stock Exchange, which had gained 95 points in the previous session, was up by 75.33 points at 13,054.99 within minutes of opening of the session.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stocks Exchange Nifty was up by 22.50 points at 3,820.60.

Major gainers in the opening trade were Rel Comm, Infosys, TCS, Ranbaxy, ACC, Guj Ambuja, SBI and Tata Steel. However, HDFC Bank, HLL, NTPC and Hero Honda were trading low.

Stockbrokers said beginning of April contract in the derivate segment (futures and Options) and pick up in buying by foreign as well as domestic funds pushed the Sensex higher.

Asian markets were trading mixed.

Japan's Nikkei rose 0.43 per cent or 74.33 points at 17,338.27, Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted was up 0.14 per cent or 10.69 points at 7,859.02.

However, Hong Kong's Heng Seng fell 0.09 per cent or 17.31 points at 19,804.47, Singapore's Straits Times was down 0.04 per cent or 1.37 points at 3,227.51 and South Korea's Seoul Composite was flat at 1,452.87.
