New Delhi: Even as the Government is scaling down its growth projections, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia has said that GDP growth could be lower this fiscal than what the RBI estimates say.
Ahluwalia says that in the changed global economic situation, it would be reasonable even to achieve 7 per cent growth.
"The latest official estimate was the RBI saying the growth rate could be between 7.5 to 8 per cent. It is much more likely to be a shade downward. Personally, if you ask me, we should be planning for as low as 7 per cent. I think it will be very reasonlable to say that we are planning for 7 per cent," he stated.
He was speaking at the Economic Editors Conference in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The RBI had projected a growth rate of 7.5 to 8 per cent, down from the earlier estimate of 9 per cent.
