Sorab Assembly constituency has an estimated Scheduled Caste population of 17.28% and an estimated Scheduled Tribe population of 3.53%, according to the report of the Delimitation Commission of 2008. In 2013, S Madhu Bangarappa of JDS emerged victorious in this seat beating H.Halappa of KJP by a margin of 21,225 votes which was 15.04% of the total votes polled in the constituency. JDS had a vote share of 41.47% in the seat.
