Tata Motors has launched a new variant of their workhorse, the Sumo and have dubbed it as the Sumo Gold. The Sumo Gold variant is available in both BS3 and BS4 compliant engines. Speaking at the launch, Vice President for Commercial PCBU of Tata Motors, Mr R. Ramakrishnan said, “The Tata Sumo Gold is a result of extensive consumer studies and field tests.” The BS4 compliant engine pumps out 85PS while torque rating stands at 250 Nm. The BS3 engine meanwhile has a power output of 70PS and 250 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 5 speed gearbox, which Tata Motors claim has been reworked to improve shift quality and feel. The manufacturer claims the engine is now smoother as well and the Sumo Gold boasts of lower NVH levels as compared to the earlier variants.
Styling remains identical to the Sumo on sale currently, although the front end sports a slightly different head lamp cluster along with a refreshed grill and chrome strip, while rear fog lamps and new graphics adorn the Sumo Gold’s rear. The Sumo Gold also gets a marked change in its stance with the 15/ 16 inch tyres shod with wider 215mm rubber for the BS4 variant and 185mm for the BS3 variant. Keeping in mind driver comfort, the gear lever is now a short throw one. Tata Motors is offering the Sumo Gold in four variants, the pricing for which begins from Rs 5.23 lakh, ex-showroom Pune.

Di Turbo BS3: Bringing years of know-how to a lineage of power is the Di Turbo engine. This 2956cc engine is all-muscle, generating an output of 70PS @ 3000rpm and a torque of 225Nm @ 1600 to 2000rpm. Its sheer size and heft makes the Di Turbo the largest sized diesel engine. This engine delivers an impressive mileage of 14.3kmpl.
The Tata Sumo Gold has an imposing poise, broad stable stance and a visual blitzkrieg of stylish body graphics. A new headlight design works in tandem with a prominent tail lamp cluster, high power forward and rear fog lamps, to light up the path.
