Mumbai: Coastal Road Phase Two Inaugurated, Reach Marine Drive To Haji Ali In Just 8 Minutes
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) allocated Rs 3200 crore for the Coastal Road project in its 2022-23 budget.

Mumbai‘s second phase of the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road, connecting Worli to Marine Drive, was inaugurated on Monday.

According to NDTV, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the opening ceremony.

“Today marks the opening of the second phase of the Dharmveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Coastal Road. This 6.25 km tunnel, stretching from Haji Ali to Amarsons, will extend to Worli by July. With advanced construction technology, travel time is reduced from 40-50 minutes to just 8 minutes,” announced CM Shinde.

This newly opened coastal road links Marine Drive to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, spanning 10.8 kilometers and featuring a 2-kilometer tunnel between Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive. The first phase was inaugurated on March 11 by CM Shinde, Deputy CMs Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar.

In the 2022-23 budget, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) allocated Rs 3200 crore to this ambitious coastal road project, representing the largest budget share at 17 percent. This was followed by health at 15 percent, traffic and roads at 12 percent, bridges at 9 percent, stormwater drains at 8 percent, and the Goregaon-Mulund Link road at 7 percent.
