Kia EV9 To Tata Harrier EV: Electric Cars Coming To India In 2024
In the upcoming year, India will receive several new electric vehicles as the EV market continues to expand quickly.

The electric vehicle (EV) market in India is poised for significant expansion in the coming year, with the introduction of several new EV models.

As reported by Hindustan Times (HT) Auto, numerous automakers have officially confirmed the launch of their electric vehicles in 2024.

This surge in new models is expected to create avenues for leading automakers to tap into India’s burgeoning EV market, where electric vehicle sales presently make up less than 7 per cent of total vehicle sales, according to reports.

Here is the list of brand-new electric cars set to debut in India next year:

Tata Harrier EV

Tata Motors has confirmed that the electric version of its flagship Harrier SUV, which recently received a major facelift, will be available in 2024. The Harrier EV made its debut earlier this year at the Auto Expo. The Harrier EV, which is based on the Gen 2 EV architecture, will have V2L and V2V charging capabilities. So far, very little is known about the range, performance, and features of this electric SUV.

Tata Punch EV

Tata Punch EV, the upcoming electric vehicle from Tata Motors, is slated to make its debut in India next year. Notably, when launched, the Punch EV will become the fourth vehicle in Tata’s portfolio to offer Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), and Electric Vehicle (EV) variants of the same model. Anticipated to leverage Tata’s Ziptron technology, similar to other EVs like the Nexon, the Punch EV’s long-range version is expected to cover over 300 kilometres on a single charge. Reports suggest that the battery size might align with the specifications of the Tigor EV or the Nexon EV.

Tata Curvv EV

Tata Curvv EV, slated to be Tata Motors’ third electric vehicle, is scheduled for release in 2024. The introduction of the EV variant is anticipated to follow the launch of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version of the SUV. Built on Tata Motors’ X1 platform, the Curvv EV will undergo significant modifications to align with electric vehicle requirements. According to reports, the Curvv electric SUV is projected to boast an impressive range of 400-500 kilometres on a single charge.

Maruti Suzuki eVX

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest carmaker, plans to launch its first electric vehicle, the eVX, in 2024. The carmaker has confirmed that the eVX electric SUV, which was first shown at the Auto Expo in January 2023, will be manufactured from Suzuki Motor’s Gujarat facility in Hansalpur beginning next year. The eVX electric SUV will have a range of around 550 kilometres on a single charge. It will be outfitted with a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. When it is released, it will compete with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona, among others.

Kia EV9

With the introduction of its three-row electric SUV EV9, the Korean automaker is expected to expand its EV lineup in India. The EV9 is more than five metres long and is built on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It claims to have a range of up to 541 kilometres on a single charge and comes in two variants. The EV9 is powered by a 150 kW electric motor that can propel it from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.4 seconds. The EV’s RWD version will have a more powerful 160 kW electric motor.

Mahindra XUV.e8

Mahindra and Mahindra will also expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the introduction of an electric SUV based on the XUV700. After the XUV400, this will be Mahindra’s second electric vehicle. Mahindra presented five upcoming electric SUVs at an event in the United Kingdom in August 2022. The XUV.e8 is expected to be released under the Born Electric brand and will feature a dual electric motor as well as all-wheel drive technology. Mahindra is expected to include at least a 60-kWh battery pack with the XUV.e8 EV, as well as features such as level 2 ADAS and 5G connectivity.
