The Hyundai Elite i20 is only among the couple of cars who defined the premium hatchback category in India. But it never was inducted in the hot hatch category, which most of its rivals like Maruti Suzuki Swift and Volkswagen Polo successfully managed to adhere to.
A Calicut, Kerala based restorer and modifier by the name Resto Car Restoration decided to convert the Hyundai Elite i20 into a proper hot hatch and created a body kit that transforms the i20 into a hot hatchback, even if it’s limited to visual treatment only.
The body kit comprises of an aggressive front bumper with large air intake and LED DRL strips, black mesh pattern hexagonal grille, projector headlamps with corona rings, custom gunmetal alloy rims as well as low profile tyres, side skirts, an aggressive rear bumper with a faux diffuser and dual exhaust tips, along with a large wing on the roof.
But, the real touch of a hot hatch is added by a gloss black paint that gives it an aggressive look. The image of the interiors is not visible but we did spot red leather seat upholstery.
The Elite i20 comes powered by 3 engine options – a 1.2L Kappa engine with 84 PS power and paired with a 5-speed manual, a 1.4L petrol unit with 100 PS output and a 4-speed automatic, and a 1.4L turbodiesel unit paired with a 6-speed manual and 90 PS output.
Prices of the i20 start for Rs 5,36,624 and goes all the way to Rs 9,09,118 (ex-showroom Delhi). Hyundai is already working on a facelift of the car that is expected to arrive in early 2018.
