Ford unveils the all new Figo concept sedan in India
The concept showcases Ford's vision for the future in the competitive compact-car segment in India and other dynamic emerging markets.

New Delhi: Ford has unveiled the global Figo concept sedan two days before Auto Expo 2014 kicks off. It is a sub 4m sedan which is based on the Ka concept which was showcased in Brazil a few months back.

The car has an aggressive face which is keeping in line with the Ford family look. Ford designers have worked extra hard to ensure that this sedan looks as dynamic as possible.

The rear end is stubby like the Amaze and the Dzire, two cars which the Figo concept is squarely aimed at. The Figo concept sedan also has electrically adjustable ORVMs which are flexible and don't break if bumped by another car or motorcyclist. Ford claims that the safety features are also a first in the segment.

Inside the cabin, there are features like a mobile phone, satellite navigation and MP3 holder which seamlessly integrates into the car's entertainment system. Ford also claims class leading space in the cabin.

The car will most likely go into production later this year or next. It will be manufactured at Ford's upcoming plant in Sanand in Gujarat.

The Figo concept sedan may have the EcoSport's power trains which mean a 1.0l EcoBoost engine and 1.5l diesel motor. The transmission options will be a manual and automatic, both 5-speed.

Based on a global design philosophy, but created to serve the specific needs of consumers in India, the concept showcases Ford's vision for the future in the competitive compact-car segment in India and other dynamic emerging markets.

With Asia Pacific set to account for nearly a third of Ford's global sales volume by mid-decade - up from 15 per cent in 2010 - the concept gives a glimpse into the kind of vehicle that Ford expects to play an important role in the region.

The compact car segment is the most competitive segment in India and has been outpacing the industry for the past decade making up almost a third of total sales in 2013. Ford expects compact car sales in India to grow from about 1 million units last year to roughly 2 million units in 2018 reflecting the significance of compact cars to Indian consumers.

Ford India is riding on robust demand for its EcoSport compact sport-utility vehicle, which was launched in the country last year.

The car will be on showcase at the 12th New Delhi Auto Expo 2014 that runs from February 7 to February 11 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi NCR.
