The Fiat Avventura has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 5.99 lakh ex-Delhi. The Avventura is basically a hopped up Punto, just like Volkswagen's Cross Polo and Toyota's Etios Cross.
The Fiat Avventura is available in five variants - Active and Dynamic with petrol and Active, Dynamic and Emotion with diesel.
The petrol variants powered by a 1.4 litre engine are priced between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 7.05 while the diesel variants are priced between Rs 6.89 lakh and Rs 8.17 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
Powering the Avventura is a pair of petrol and diesel engines. While its donor hatchback gets two petrol and two diesel engines, the Avventura gets only the top-spec 90PS 1.4l petrol and 93PS 1.3l diesel. Both the engines come mated to five-speed manual transmissions. Fiat claims a fuel efficiency of 14.4kmpl from the petrol and 20.5kmpl from the diesel respectively. A 3 years/ 1 lakh km warranty is standard on the Avventura.
"The Avventura showcases Fiat's commitment to India to produce cars designed for India and manufactured for India," Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India Operations President and MD Nagesh Basavanhalli told reporters here. The vehicle would be manufactured at the company's Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra and will be initially sold in the domestic market only.
When asked about the response for the vehicle so far, Basavanhalli said, "We have already received around 15,000 enquires and 500 pre-launch bookings for the Avventura." The company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has been adding new models in its product portfolio this year to rev-up its sales. It has set a target of five products by the end of this year and nine by 2016 in its Indian line up. Later this year, the company plans to launch luxury hatchback Abarth 500.
Italian-American auto major Fiat Chrysler plans to launch 12 models in India in the next five years and will start producing models from the Jeep brand in the country by 2015. In 2015, the group will introduce the much-awaited Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models from the Jeep brand and Abarth Punto.
The Grand Cherokee and Abarth Punto will be locally produced, while Wrangler will be imported. The group's plant at Ranjangoan in Maharashtra will roll out six models across three platforms by 2018, up from the current three models from a single platform. The facility will produce six types of engines from the current three.
By 2018 the group expects to have a vehicle production capacity of 2,45,000 units annually, compared with 1,35,000 at present.
While the total engine capacity will remain the same at 3,50,000 units, for transmission units, it will go up to 3,30,000 by 2018 from the current level of 3,00,000 units.
