Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway To Be Linked With Bahadurgarh Bypass In Haryana
Union Ministry approves Haryana's plan to link Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway with Bahadurgarh Bypass, enhancing connectivity.

A proposal by the Haryana government to connect the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Greenfield Expressway with the Bahadurgarh Bypass has received a green signal from the central government.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the state government’s proposal regarding this, according to English Jagaran. The move will make it easier for those planning to visit Delhi via the expressway, which starts from Jasaur Kheri in Jhajjar district in Haryana.

Once constructed, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is expected to reduce the travel time from Delhi to Amritsar to four hours, while it will take close to six hours to reach Katra. At present, the distance from Delhi to Katra is 727 km, while the construction of this route will reduce the distance by 58 km. This 669 km greenfield expressway Delhi-Amritsar-Katra is being built by the central government at a cost of  Rs 40,000 crore, reports stated.

While inspecting the construction work in Punjab in October last year, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed that the expressway will have a total length of 669 km. Out of this, 137 km is being built in Haryana, 399km in Punjab, and the rest 135km in Jammu and Kashmir. The expressway will pass through key industrial areas like Patiala, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Kapurthala and Gurudaspur in Punjab, Gadkari said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will cover cities like Jhajjar, Rohtak, Sonipat, Jind, Karnal and Kaithal in Haryana. The upcoming expressway will also be linked with the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway as well as the 152D Green Corridor – other major expressways in North India.

Earlier, Gadkari said that the expressway will connect several religious places of the Sikh community including the Golden Temple, Sultanpur Lodhi Gurdwara in Kapurthala district, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran, Goindwal Sahib Gurdwara, Khadur Sahib gurdwara. It will also connect Mata Vaishno Devi in Katra.

As per reports, the first phase of the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Greenfield Expressway, which will connect Delhi to Jalandhar, is underway and is expected to be finished by the end of this year. This project is part of the central government’s plan to build a network of green field corridors across different states in the country in a bid to improve road connectivity to boost economic activities.
