THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Balachandra Menon in his inimitable style captured the full-house audience once again that came to the Co-bank Towers here on Wednesday on the occasion of the release of his book “Ariyathathu, Ariyendathu.” This time it was to hear him speak on his return from one-and-a-half-year-long illness, hospitalisation and recovery. Welcoming the dignitaries he said: “I see you again as if we are meeting again after a shipwreck.” While referring to his illness and hospitalisation he said that there were four types of people who had found strange satisfaction. “Some of them engaged in creating stories; some relished it, some others spread it and some sympathised with me.” But he said he was forgiving everyone. Welcoming K B Ganesh Kumar who was the first to read his book, Menon said that when he met him years ago he found that there was another person having the same strained relations with his father. Speaking about Kaviyoor Ponnamma, who came all the way from Aluva to attend the function, Menon said that Ponnamma in her traditional “mundu-neryathu” attire continues to remain as mother of Sathyan to the new generation actors like Vineeth. He also observed that while male actors can have the convenience of adaptation, Ponnamma had to remain in the same attire and act differently. Speaking on the occasion, Ganesh Kumar hoped that in his second coming Menon would utilise his directorial and writing skills once again to give good cinemas to the Malayalees. He also made a dig at the film directors who waste the talents of superstars. “When an actor becomes a superstar, films are made presenting him from ‘frame to frame,’ he said. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy relased the book handing over a copy to poet O N V Kurup. Former Minister M Vijayakumar, George Onakkoor and Ajith M Sreedhar spoke. Large number of film personalities and friends of Balachandra Menon attended the function. National Book Stall is the publishers of the book.
