A 7-year-old boy from Hyderabad became one of the youngest to have scaled the highest mountain peak of Africa Mt Kilimanjaro om March 6 after drawing inspiration from his cousins' trekking experiences.

A 7-year-old boy from Hyderabad became one of the youngest to have scaled the highest mountain peak of Africa Mt Kilimanjaro om March 6 after drawing inspiration from his cousins’ trekking experiences.

Talking about his experience with ANI, Virat Chandra said that he was too enthralled after hearing all the stories of climbing mountain from his cousins and wanted to try something similar. After having a discussion with his parents regarding the same, his parents approached a coach named Bharath.

Virat’s mother also spoke of a similar story. She narrated when his cousins were at Rudugaira Mountains in Uttarakhand for a trekking trip, Virat had a video call with them. “He was fascinated When Virat saw the place in the video call, he became fascinated. Even he wanted to try something like that,” said Virat’s mother.

Once Virat started off with his training, the coach said he was way too much into it. The 7-year-old completed all the rigorous tasks including running, rock climbing and so on.

The journey had ultimately begun on March 5. However, precautions were taken as he is still a child. In the middle of the trek, they had taken out time to sleep, rest before starting again.

“I was scared but all I wanted was to reach my goal,” said Virat Chandra.

“We took all precautions and had decided that we’d return if he feels uneasy but he made us proud,” said the coach.

On March 6, they finally reached the Uhuru Peak of Mt Kilimanjaro.

Earlier in March, 9-year-old girl Kadapala Rithvika Sri from Andhra Pradesh became the youngest girl in Asia to have conquered Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.

In 2018, October, six-year-old boy Coaltan Tanner from Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the US became the youngest person ever to climb Kilimanjaro. He was born on September 18th, 2012, meaning he was just six years, one month and a few days when he made it to Uhuru Peak.
